News and Press The College Board Releases 2006/2007 College Cost Figures On October 24, 2006, The College Board released college cost figures for the 2006/2007 academic year in its Trends in College Pricing report: Tuition and fees at four-year institutions rose an average of 6.3 percent at public colleges and 5.9 percent at private colleges Tuition and fees at two-year institutions rose an average of 4.1 percent at public colleges (there was not a sufficient sample size to allow calculation of two-year private college tuition and fee costs) Room and board at four-year institutions rose an average of 5.1 percent at public colleges and 5.0 percent at private colleges (there was not a sufficient sample size to allow calculation of two-year college room-and-board costs) For the 2006/2007 academic year, the average total cost of a college education is $33,301 for a four-year private college and $16,357 for a four-year public college. These figures include tuition and fees, books and supplies, room and board, transportation, and other miscellaneous costs.
